Nexus 5 launch on the 24th October? I don't think so.

The big news last week that Google were launching the next generation of its Nexus brand, the Nexus 5, seems to have put Android users in frenzy. This device touted as a true iPhone 5 beater, unlocked and off-contract for under £300. Wake me up … I am dreaming.

And what a spec to behold:

 - 32GB version

 - 10MP Camera from Canon

 - 4.8 inch IPS Display

 - Android 4.4 Kitkat

It’s enough to salivate.  And as Google seem to be addressing the Nexus 4s shortcoming, which to be fair was pretty good in it own right, it’s making the choice to buy the Nexus 5 vs the iPhone 5 very difficult indeed.

A series of events occurred to backup this launch claim, such as the Nexus 4 availability on Google Play being all sold out. Are Google selling off all old stock to make way for the new product? Oh and the new camera phone being used on a recent Google ad. That wasn’t a Nexus 4….what was it?

Then the invitations to the Google Event on the 24th October. Was this the day the Nexus 5 would be revealed to the world…?

…Well sorry to disappoint you folks but it looks like it's not going happen.  Electronista.com as well as a few other industry insiders recon Google won’t be launching any new hardware at the event. I for one will be the first in line to get a new handset come release day.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Watch this space.
